What this part does

The neutral safety switch (transmission range sensor) tells the car which gear the lever is in. When it fails, the engine will not start, the dash shows a park-assist warning and no gear is displayed.

Typical codes: P0707, P1705 and P2802. A new TCM will not fix these — replace the switch.
